Travel Well: My travel routine after 40 years and 111 countries

After 40 years of travel and 111 countries visited, this is the routine that goes with me before departure, during the flight, and once I arrive at my destination.

For many people, the journey begins when they board a plane.

For me, instead, it starts much earlier.

A cup of tea, a trolley packed without haste and the phrase that has been with me for over forty years: Relax... joy... off we go.

Over the last forty years I've been lucky enough to visit 111 countries, take hundreds of flights and live extraordinary experiences in every part of the world. With time I understood that true luxury isn't simply reaching a destination.

It's getting there with energy. That's why, over the years, I've built a personal routine I follow before departure, during the flight and as soon as I arrive. It's not a medical guide. It's not a set of rules.

It's simply the method I've learned to take care of myself while doing one of the things I love most: TRAVELLING.

Why my ‘Travel Well’ Routine was born

When I was younger I faced every trip with the enthusiasm of someone who wants to see as much as possible in the least time possible.

Over the years, though, I realized that the real goal wasn’t visiting more places, but living each experience better. So, almost without noticing, many small rituals were born that today are part of every departure. They’re not strict rules.

They’re simply habits that help me arrive at my destination feeling good, ready to truly enjoy the trip.

Everyone builds their own routine.

This is simply mine.

My journey begins long before takeoff

It starts at home.

Over the years I’ve learned that leaving calmly is already a way to arrive better.

On departure day, I love to start with a light breakfast, I drink my tea and, just before heading out, I prepare my body to face a day that’s often very long, with my daily dose of Collagen. A strawberry drink, tasty and refreshing.

Then I head to the airport always well in advance. I don’t want to rush and load myself with stress even before getting on the plane.

Once at the airport I’m happy. At last, we’re off!

For many it’s a place to wait.

For me it’s the moment when the trip truly begins.

If I can, I head to the lounge. I like to slow the pace as much as I can, take my time and get ready calmly for departure.

I almost always choose a light lunch: maybe fresh fruit and then chicken or fish.

I don’t drink coffee. I prefer a Moroccan Tea or a Green Tea.

Before boarding I take my Omega, which are part of my daily routine even when I travel.

For me all this means: starting the trip with peace of mind.

The flight isn’t a wait or a transfer; it’s part of the journey.

As soon as I sit down, I carefully arrange my space. I like having everything within reach.

When the crew offers drinks I almost always choose water. I avoid fizzy drinks and I certainly don’t drink spirits or wine.

I keep my phone switched off. It’s my way to truly switch off and live my trip from takeoff.

If the flight is during the day I don’t sleep. I love watching the world from above, reading, listening to music or watching a film.

If it’s at night, generally, I sleep at most three hours: I don’t want to miss the magic of flying.

For meals I always choose the Indian vegetarian menu, whatever the airline. It’s a habit I’ve kept up for many years, and it makes me feel good even on the longest flights.

Every now and then I lift my eyes to the window. Photographing the world from above is one of those little rituals I never give up. Because every flight tells a different story.

As soon as I arrive, I don’t start running…. First I let my body understand where it is.

I get to the hotel and, calmly, I take a shower, remove my makeup with my Cleansing Balm and unpack my trolley.

And I start living the destination.

If it’s still daytime, I don’t plan visits or demanding schedules. I simply go out for a walk: a stroll on the beach, like in Bali, or through the streets of a city, like Singapore.

I like to let the place, the scents and the atmosphere welcome me.

If instead I arrive in the evening and it’s not too late, I still take a walk or go for a swim in the pool.

The day always ends with a light dinner, preferably choosing dishes from the local cuisine.

For me this is the best way to tell my body: "We’ve arrived."

Travel Well is a travel philosophy

Well-being isn’t something that only concerns everyday life.

It can stay with us while we travel too, and Travel Well was born from this very idea.

Taking care of yourself before departure, during the flight and once you arrive means experiencing every destination with more energy, more calm and more awareness.

It’s a way of traveling that today I feel deeply mine, and that I’ll keep sharing through new destinations, experiences and guides dedicated to well-being around the world.

Slow Travel is my choice now.

The products that are part of my Travel Well Routine

Many people who follow me often ask me which products I use during my trips. The answer is simple: I don’t change my routine when I leave.

I bring with me the same habits I follow every day.

Of course, in recent years some products have become an essential part of how I take care of myself, both at home and while traveling. These include Omega-3, Collagen, Probiotics, Cleansing Balm and SPF 50 protection.

I use them all personally because they’re part of my daily routine and, for this very reason, I chose to recommend them to anyone who asks. I don’t travel without them.
